3rd digipack analysis: Linkin Park

This s a very extensive digipak as it is much bigger than your average digipak. Containing two more panels than your usual digipak. The reason they have done this is as two artists are involved in the making of the album. Another reason they have done this is because the genre of music that is displayed in the album is unconventional so they probably made an album cover differently to your generic album cover, to stick to that theme.
On the front of the album we have graffiti patterns on a light brown background. We have cartoon illustrations of band instruments. This theme of urban street art appeals to their young urban target audience. The use of the colour blue appeals to a male audience as blue is trade mark male colour. The illustrations on the front lead the audience to believe the album will have a rock/punk themes as there are illustrations of band instruments, with the addition of spray paint it gives it a scruffy feel. This could suggest that the music on the album is a little bit rough around the edges. The inclusion of orange in the title which connotes joy and determination, are feelings that someone could experience while listening to the album, but in addition, orange is known for being a very creative colour which links to the artistic style shown with the illustrations on the front.
Most other album covers only have small digipak's which makes this one stand out more to an audience or a potential buyer, as they would feel like they are getting more for their money due to the size and weight of the album. The use of the way it unconventionally opens makes it more appealing to someone looking at it and will invite people to the item to take a look. Also, this digipak gives more coverage for the artists as for this album, as two separate artists have come together to create this album. This use of variation in font style gives both artists the chance to show off their style whether it be bold of more fine cut.
On this album cover you can see the name of the artist in white which can represent success making the artists appear successful and powerful. White also represents perfection which could lead the purchaser to think a certain way about the artist. The album is called collision course which relates to the image on the front as it shows similar themes to a skate park, with the graffiti. Collision course makes me think of a skate park, not only does the digipak show similar colours and styles that you would see at a skate park, but collision course could be a reference to the skate park track, and the obstacles on it, including people who might be in the way on that skate park. Collision course could also be a reference to life and the obstacles people will face in life, the album could be about being bold and heading those issues face on. This links to the bold individual style of the illustrations presented throughout the album.
This type of album cover would attract mostly male teenagers who where either a fan of either artist or boys who where a bit rebellious, it could possibly attract teens who live in urban areas or teens who like, and are interested in the artistic illustration on the front. The blue shown throughout the album especially on the cd make the target audience predominantly masculine boys who would see the colour and recognise that the album is for them.
